Abstract

This paper presents the genetic-biochemical characterization of 19 rice (Oryza sativa L.) entries belonging to the germplasm collection from ??Los Palacios? Rice Research Station, Pinar del Río. This study included not only Cuban varieties but genotypes coming from seven countries, which are widely used as parents in the genetic and plant breeding programs of this crop. The electrophoretic analyses were performed in polyacrilamide gel for total proteins and peroxidase, esterase and polyphenoloxidase isoenzymes. The
results were processed by means of MAT-GENE programs and Cluster analysis, which proved diversity among genotypes with differences for all proteic systems studied. Peroxidase and esterase isoenzymes showed the highest genetic polymorphism.
