Evaluation of the photosynthetic activity associated to gas exchange of two Coffea arabica varieties obtained by in vitro culture
Main Article Content
Abstract
Culture Laboratory from Bioplant Center in July, 2007, with the
objective of evaluating the photosynthetic activity of Coffea
arabica seedlings var. Catuay and Caturra rojo, obtained by
in vitro culture at the multiplication phase. Net photosynthesis
rate, transpiration, stomatal conductance and chlorophyllous
pigment concentration were determined for each of the varieties
after eight weeks of being cultivated; vitroplants grew in a MS
medium supplemented with 0.5 ?mol of AIA and 5 ?mol of 6-BAP
under controlled conditions. Results showed that both in
vitro-developed varieties presented similar net photosynthesis
rates to the adult coffee plants grown under field conditions,
which proved seedling photosynthesis capacity, preserving a
suitable balance for gas exchange in the photosynthetic
process during in vitro multiplication stage.
