Abstract

The discovery of aquaporins in plants hascaused a major change in the way of studying the waterrelations of plants, so that in recent years considerable effortshave been made to investigate the functions and regulationsof these, since in nature the plants are continuously exposedto stress conditions that retard its growth and development, being drought, salinity and low temperatures common stressesto which they face. The aim of this work is to compile updatedinformation about the discovery and types of aquaporins, theirfunction in water transport of plants, their interaction witharbuscular mycorrhizal fungi, and some research in ricecultivation.
