Induction of heat shock tolerance by 24-epibrassinolide and two spirostanic analogs in tomato plants
Main Article Content
Abstract
induction of heat shock tolerance by treatments with
brassinosteroids (BRs) and spirostanic analogs of BRs in
tomato plants. The effect of 24-epibrassinolide and two
spirostanic analogs of BRs, MH5 and BB6, at 0.01 ?M
concentration on survival and electrolyte leakage of plants
subjected to 45°C for 45 minutes was evaluated. The ability of
24-epibrassinolide to induce thermotolerance was confirmed.
This study also showed the first analysis proving the induction
of thermotolerance by these BR analogs under the heat stress
condition indicated above. BB6-treated plants had
thermotolerance values similar to those of EBR-treated plants.
MH5-treated plants had a higher thermotolerance than the
control ones and showed no significant differences to plants
treated with BB6 and EBR. However, as a tendency, plants
with MH5 treatment had lower survival values. The increased
thermotolerance by treatments with these compounds did not
correlate with changes in electrolyte leakage. It is suggested
that thermotolerance induced by these compounds may be
related with modifications of their chemical structures.
