Abstract

The aim of this work was to identify the sunspotperformance in tomato fruits (Solanum lycopersicum). A scaleand an index that permits described the intensity and severityof sunspot damage. Additionally, we realized a histological, quality and nutritional study. The 80 percent of evaluated fruitwas affected by sunspot, with law intensity but a maximseverity in the scale. The histological in healthy and damagedfruits show different between pericarp cell sizes andmorphologic. The quality values not show affectations, butthe lycopene concentration decreased in fruits with sunspot(92 to 74 ?g/g). Results allow confirm the present of sunspotdisorder, characterized by aberrant ripening and low lycopeneconcentration in the tomato shoulder fruits. Theseobservations provide a basis for comparing sunspot inuniformly ripening tomatoes with other blotchy ripeningdisorders.
