Functioning of a liquid inoculant based on the arbuscular mycorhizal fungus Glomus sp1 (INCAM-4) for rice (Oryza sativa var. J-104) in saline soil

Abstract

This experiment was designed to define the
mycorrhizal functioning of LicoMic®, a liquid biofertilizer with
the arbuscular mycorrhizal fungus (AMF) Glomus sp1
(INCAM-4) under saline flooding soil conditions. A completely
randomized design was done, where seed of rice (Oryza sativa)
var J-104 was treated with a dose of 20 spores.seed-1 of liquid
suspension of LicoMic® and a control treatment without it.
Growth dynamics during 90 days and mycorrhizal functioning
were determined as well as the calculation of external mycelium:
arbuscular endophyte ratio (EM:AE), as an indicator of
mycorrhizal behavior. Up to 18 days, the highest values of
morphological measures were recorded in the control
treatment; however, that situation changed, starting by the
highest increments in the inoculated treatment. On the other
hand, mycorrhizal variables had a typical microbial behavior.
When analyzing visual density and arbuscular endophyte
functioning, a very well latent phase was defined , where the
fungus slowly colonized the inner root from 0 up to 20 days,
starting an exponential growth up to 40 days; after this time, a
stabilized phase to the final crop was observed. On the contrary
to external mycelium, an initial concentration increase was also
observed, following a stationary-diminishing phase to the final
crop. According to EM:AE, two mycorrhizal association
phases could be appreciated, an initial-transition up to 25 days
and another one starting by this moment, both concurrent
with plant growth dynamics. The highest yield increments were
found in the mycorrhizal treatment, which demonstrates the
good adaptability of this kind of mycorrhizal species to such
salinity conditions.
