Abstract

Sugarcane constitutes the main component of
Cuban sugar industry; its reproduction is made vegetatively,
since seeds are only used for genetic works searching new
varieties. The necessity of other alternatives for crop
propagation is an important task within crop biotechnology.
The somatic embryogenesis is an interesting alternative of
culture for this species, but among the disadvantages of this
technology is the asynchronic embryo formation, which
constitutes a difficulty at a commercial scale production. The
objective of this work was to determine the effect of a Cuban
bioregulator, Pectimorf, on callus formation processes and
somatic embryo differentiation in sugarcane and to evaluate
its effect on process synchrony. Pectimorf was added in doses
of 3.0, 5.0 and 7.0 mg.L-1, combined with 3.0 and 1.5 mg.L-1 2,4-D.
Pectimorf showed no effect on callus formation with
embryogenic structures (CCEE). The combination of 5.0 mg.L-1
Pectimorf with 1.5 mg.L-1 2,4-D had a positive effect on embryo
formation, favouring the number of embryos per gram of tissue
and its homogeneity in the advanced states of development.
