Abstract

In the Tobacco Experimental Station in San Juan yMartinez, Pinar del Río province, during the tobacco crops2001-2002, was made a sexual cross with the objective ofobtaining a dark tobacco variety of tobacco with more yield thatthe commercial �??Criollo 98�??, resistant to the blue mold(Peronospora hyocyami de Bary), black shank (Phytophthoraparasitica Dast. var. Nicotianae Breda de Haan), tobacco mosaicvirus (VMT) and weather fleck. After five generations ofself-pollination and selection by the pedigree method, sevenresistant varieties were obtained. The cross originated the newvariety `Corojo 2006´ that it surpassed the `Criollo 98´.
