A nitrogen fertilization study on sugarcane varieties grown in different types of soils (plant cane)
Main Article Content
Abstract
development, growth and yields. Concerning plant cane, its
response to N applications is not completely defined and
several results do not agree. Therefore, this paper was aimed
at determining how this fertilizer application benefits the crop,
according to soil and variety conditions. Experiments were
performed in six locations from Havana province, using 10
varieties and different soils. Doses of 0 to 160 kg.ha-1 N were
applied to plant cane. Short and long-term experiments were
conducted in ??spring? and ??winter? plantations. Results
proved that the beneficial effect of such application to plant
cane was related to each variety and type of soil. Considering
13 different situations, only three varieties, Ja 60-5, C 174-82
and CB 4452, did not have higher yields. N applied to plant
cane under different types of soils and varieties improved 77 %
all plantations studied.
