Abstract

Several tests with true potato seed (TPS) were
planted during two seasons at the National Institute of
Agricultural Sciences (INCA). Some agronomic characters and
phenotype uniformity in different hybrid combinations were
studied for commercial seed production. Reproductive
characters were evaluated in some potato varieties flowering
under our conditions, and their genotypes were crossed.
Flowers, fruits and seeds were evaluated and correlated. Eight
hybrid combinations were obtained, evaluating germination
and vigor percentages to their seeds and plantlets respectively,
as well as color uniformity, tuber shape, tuber number per plant
and total yield. In almost all combinations studied, a phenotype
variability was found, except Desirée x Fontenot, showing an
adequate uniformity, accepatable weight and tuber number.
