Abstract

The mechanized sugarcane harvest loading causesthe introduction of foreign matters to sugar manufacturingprocess, which not only decreases factory yields, but alsomakes the existing mechanical elements of industrialequipments be spoiled and broken. San Miguelito sugar millis not free from this set of problems. Thus, within 2007/2008sugarcane harvest, the field department started to use thesystem of ecological containers (a system of two bundles of25 stalks each that are placed in parallel to the row and on itstop once they are cut) and metallic ones during the mechanizedloading. Results were compared with the main industrialindicators from 2006/2007 sugarcane harvest, which did notuse any container. Besides, results were compared with bothkinds of containers and without using them during 2007/2008sugarcane harvest. In such harvest, less soil, stone andagricultural residues were transferred towards the mill yard, decreasing the lost time in the factory, the accumulated filtercake and the amount of molasses, whereas the mixed juicepurity and physical sugar yield increased. The presence ofagricultural residues in the factory was higher when using theecological container; both kinds of containers were exactlythe same efficient, concerning the amount of soil and stones, and the metallic container was again better to reduce totalimpurities. Both containers reduced all impurities present inthe raw material.
