Abstract

The guava is considered one of the most
valuable tropical fruits. The propagation of this species is
carried out by means of stakes; however, it is a low efficiency
method because a high phenolization impedes good rooting
and, on the other hand, because of the limited existence of
plant donors in some cultivars. The implant is severely affected
by environmental contamination; therefore, its use has little
success to obtain a lot of plants. The seed constitutes another
conventional propagation method. The micropropagation of
this species arises as a better alternative of quick propagation,
that allows to carry out physiological studies of rejuvenation
and aging to obtain productive plants in a short time. The
present work has the objective to study the multiplication
phase of Psidium guajava L. var. «Enana Roja Cubana»
EEA 18-40, starting from apexes and nodal segments of in
vitro plants. The best results were reached when the apical
segments were used as explants and put in a MS medium
supplemented with 0.5 mg.L-1 BAP for 30 days, obtaining a
multiplication coefficient of 4.03.
