Abstract

Brassinosteroids are plant growth-stimulating
substances. Since their isolation different investigations have
been developed to evaluate their activity as in vitro
morphogenetic bioregulators in different plant species. In this
work, the biological activity of different concentrations of a
brassinosteroid analog synthesized in Cuba, commercially
called Biobras 6 was studied in the in vitro morphogenetic
response in tomato (Lycopersicon esculentum, Mill). Some
trials were performed using hypocotyl apical segments as
explants and cotyledons coming from seedlings of Amalia
cultivars, which were cultivated in MS medium supplemented
with different concentrations of Biobras 6 (10-4, 10-3, 10-2,
10-1 mg. L-1), with or without low concentrations of BAP (0.25,
0.5, 1 mg. L-1). The best shoot organogenesis results were
achieved with the use of Biobras 6 (10-4 mg.L-1), regarding
hypocotyl efficiency and regeneration frequency. The
regenerative process of both explant types differed notably.
Biobras 6 (10-4 mg.L-1) and BAP (0.25 mg.L-1) combination
benefited callus formation in all the tested explant, favoring a
slow process of indirect regeneration.
