Abstract

The experiment was carried out in the period of 1988-1998 located in Pinares de Mayarí table land, at 650 m over sea level, on a Dark Red Ferritic Soil planted with Coffea arabica
L. var. ??Isla 6-14? at a distance of 2x1 m under the shade of pines (Pinus cubensis Griceb). Different systems of phosphoric
fertilization were studied, with an initial application of 25 t.ha-1
organic matter (filtercake) and 150 kg P2O5.ha-1, with differences at the time of restarting annual mineral phosphoric fertilizer applications (after two, three and four years of being planted), as well as in the annual doses of 50 or 150 kg.ha-1 and another receiving 150 kg P2O5.ha-1 per year. Two reference controls were employed: one with only an initial application of 25 t.ha-1 filtercake and the second one only with mineral phosphoric fertilizer application at doses of 150 kg de P2O5.ha-1. year-1. The treatments also received annual doses of N and K2O. A randomized block design was used with five replicates. There was a significant answer of coffee to the application of phosphoric fertilizer, the initial applications of mineral fertilizer and organic matter being necessary to obtain the best yields. It was feasible to restart annual applications at the fourth year of plantation, in doses of 150 kg P2O5.ha-1, obtaining by this system an average yield of 2.5 t coffee berries. ha-1.year-1 and mineral fertilizer economics. Also, a strong relationship was obtained between growth and P leaf contents, thus a critical index of 0.205 % was fixed and a high phosphoric fertilization response was recorded with lower or the same contents at 0.15 %.
