Abstract

The resistance of several rice lines and varieties was evaluated against the infection provoked by Pyricularia grisea fungus, a causal agent of the well-known Pyriculariosis of great importance all over the world. A new field methodology employed by the International Center of Tropical Agriculture (CIAT) was used to carry out the evaluations in a place having a high genetic diversity of the pathogen and a high inoculum pressure. The work was developed in the «Caribe» farm belonging to «Los Palacios» Rice Agroindustrial Enterprise in Pinar del Río, where this disease is one of the factors limiting production. Results showed a total of eight lines and resistant varieties in the first evaluation at seedling stage and seven in the second one for the same stage. All the material evaluated as resistant in leaves turned to be susceptible to the disease in the panicle. There was not any correlation between the evaluations performed in leaves and those in the panicle.
