Abstract

In order to evaluate the influence of inoculation
with arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi (AMF), the period of
synchrony between the incorporation of green manure and
planting Canavalia ensiformis and fertilization doses on maize
growth, was conducted this work, which developed in
microplots conditions, repeated for two years, in the period
between the months of August to October of 2003 and 2004, in
areas of the National Institute of Agricultural Sciences (INCA)
of Cuba, in a Rhodic Nitisol soil. We studied three doses of
mineral nitrogen fertilizer (0, 40 and 80 kg ha-1 of N), two periods
of synchrony between incorporating canavalia and planting
the main crop (7 and 21 days) and two levels of mycorrhizal
inoculation corn factor (with and without inoculation) in a
completely randomized design under trifactorial arrangement
(3x2x2) and three reference controls. There was interaction
between the factors under study, finding that the combined
use of mycorrhizal inoculation of corn and canavalia is also
diminishing doses of mineral fertilizer needed for the crop to
reach a dry mass and nutrient content similar to those obtained
with the high dose of nitrogen fertilizer studied. Mycorrhizal
colonization was found in all the treatments, but the most
significant values were found in treatments with AMF
inoculation and application of two nitrogen sources. The sync
time of seven days resulted the optimum in the conditions of
this study.
