Abstract

This investigation was carried out with the aim of evaluating the varietal stability of sugrcane plantlets from cryopreserved meristems, using noncryopreserved apices as control. All the material grown in the laboratory was transferred to propagative beds to obtain enough crop material for its further reproduction. Then, this material was planted in the field under an experimental design to evaluate individually and in populations those seedlings derived from cryopreserved apical meristems. Cane and sugar yield components were evaluated, besides botanically characterizing each individual, with the aim of evaluating if cryopreservation can be used for sugarcane germplasm preservation. According to results, no changes were recorded in cryopreserved plants regarding botanical characters nor every yield component evaluated.
