Abstract

In order to try to obtain haploid plants, results about the effect of Thidiazuron upon embryo formation and plantlet regeneration on recalcitrant calluses achieved from anther culture of pineapple (Ananas comosus (L.) Merrill) were presented. Calluses from different genotypes were cultured on Murashige and Skoog??s medium containing several concentrations of plant growth regulators. There was a differential response among all tested genotypes and the kind of plant growth regulators employed upon androgenic embryo formation and plantlet regeneration. The best responses were obtained using 1.5 mg.L-1 Thidiazuron on Red Spanish ??Pinareña??, Smooth Cayenne c.v. ??Oriente?? and ??Piña blanca?? respectively. Calluses from Smooth Cayenne c.v. ??Serrana?? and Smooth Cayenne cv ??Mexico?? did not respond to these culture
conditions.
