Abstract

The research was conducted in the Integrated Forest Farm (FFI) no. 8 municipality San Jose de las Lajas, Mayabeque province, during the years 2008-2010 with the objective of evaluating the impact of an agroforestry system as an alternative to the efficient use of soil. The methodology was based on the fundamental principles of agroecology and was designed from the conception of the FFI, including the integration of diagnosis methods used in different methodologies. Three stages were implemented beginning with the soil characterization of the research area, comprehensive assessment of the property, and the establishment and evaluation of agroforestry techniques based on the rational and efficient use of land resources. The results allowed us to recognize the main limitations and potential of the FFI, which made possible the definition, establishment and evaluation of agroforestry techniques as part of a AFS for the rational land use. In this context the alley cropping technique or association of tree species with annual crops, contributed to increased efficiency in the use of land and agroecosystem studied.
