Abstract

At present, a project for establishing
agroecological farms in Cuba is being carried out, with the
objective to reach a sustainable soil management and, at the
same time, reduce the atmospheric concentration of greenhouse
gases. The main task is soil characterization and inventory of
its carbon reserves in 90 farms throughout the country. This
work is an example of the results in La Colmena farm, a teachingresearch
area from the faculty of Agronomy at the University
of Cienfuegos, under a subhumid tropical climate. Feozems
and Fluvisols were characterized, also determining their fertility
status and carbon reserves.
