Abstract

In recent years, agricultural investigations areaimed at looking for solutions where soil microorganisms playa main role because they contribute to agroecosystemrecovery, they allow the partial or total substitution of chemicalagents, besides their low production cost and the possibilityof being produced from renewable local resources. In Cubaand other countries, a wider use of biofertilizers has been putinto practice and arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi (AMF) areamong them. These fungi report numerous benefits tocolonized plants, such as yield increments, nutritionalimprovements, protection against root pathogens andenvironmental damage decrease. Therefore, the economic andecological importance of AMF, is evident, a special attentionto basic studies concerning this symbiotic interaction hasbeen conceded, where biochemical and molecular aspectsare key for understanding the narrow and coordinated dialogueestablished between both symbionts, whose exchangedefines the functional compatibility and symbiosis efficacyas such.
