Abstract

The morphological and biochemical characteristics of embryogenic and non-embryogenic cell suspensions of sugarcane (Saccharum sp) CP52-43 cv, established from immature inflorescence calluses are evaluated. Morphological and chemical differences in both lines related to fresh weight, meristmatic cell number and protein concentration were observed. Homogeneous cell suspension growth on a solid regeneration medium formed a type 4 nonembryogenic callus, from which plants could not be regenerated. The relative amount of intra and extracellular proteins during an undifferentiated growth showed changes in extracellular protein patterns.
