Abstract

A total of 40 bacterial strains were isolated by means of Microcosms model, starting from two types of soils of San Nicolás de Bari town, Havana. Twelve of these strains were identified as belonging to Azospirillum genus by combining traditional and serological methods of agglutination in slides and double immunodifusion. Strains were characterized according to acetylene-reducing capacity and indol acetic acid (IAA) production. The twelve strains showed acetylene-reducing capacity; however, just five of them presented a consistent and important acetylene-reducing
capacity (41.66 %). Also, IAA production was proved.
