Abstract

This work was carried out in three municipalities
of Havana City (Cotorro, Habana del Este and Guanabacoa)
and two of Havana (San José de las Lajas and Bauta), with the
objective of knowing urban growers´ process of endogenous
experimentation and deciphering their logic to act in the
agricultural areas, mainly with associated systems. A diagnosis
was necessary for the research work, in order to obtain
growers´ characterization and identify the rural experiments
employed. The study was carried out by means of structured
and semi-structured interviews with a diverse questionnaire.
Then, 15 urban growers of different productive kinds were
interviewed, besides five experts related to urban and
sustainable agriculture. Interviews were recorded and
transcribed electronically for their further analysis. The
statistical procedure was performed through the descriptive
statistics and confidence interval method. The questionnaire
enabled to characterize growers to know their educational levels
and the amount of years they have been working, so that to
establish a relationship between their creativity to use
innovations and the acquired ability. About 18 experiments or
innovations were identified, standing out crop associations,
moon influence, sowing distance and biodiversity introduction
significantly.
