Abstract

Considering the current plant protection situation in rice cultivation, related to panicle emptyness and low yields, during the year 2001 the present work was carried out in «Los Palacios» Rice Research Station, with the objective of evaluating the behavior of 53 varieties derived from different origin to grain barrenness. Data were processed through correlation and conglomerate analysis. High correlations were found between pod rot (S1arocladium oryzae), percentage of mite occurrence (Steneotarsonemus spinki) and both at the same time with percentage of empty grain; also it permitted to group varieties in 15 classes and to know the best and most affected ones by different biotic factors.
