Main Article Content
Abstract
programs on this crop, a local variety and a semi-wild genetic
material with a certain domestication degree were evaluated.
They were compared with Campbell- 28 variety, which is
considered a material of great plasticity used in Cuba. Sowings
were carried out on September 4th (1997-1998 period) and on
December 3th (1998-1999 period). In this last one, the objective
was to measure the productive potential of the most
outstanding varieties. In the evaluation, 19 characters related
to crop yield, morphology and physiology were taken into
account and the presence of foliar diseases was also evaluated
in the early maturation stage. The information obtained was
processed through completely randomized and variance
analyses. The main component analysis was used in order to
make the evaluation and selection of the best material easy.
Varieties «Sapo Grande», «B-2-1 especial» and «Pera Grande»
showed great possibilities for early sowings, with the objective
of using their fruits for fresh consumption. «Cimarron Mejorado
» variety is recommended as a parent or to produce fruits
for stress conditions.
