Abstract

In order to determine the effect of population density on the hybrid HST-3235 maize
(Zea mays L.) crop yield, a study in experimental areas of the National Institute of Agricultural Sciences (INCA) was conducted. The experiment was performed on a typical Eutric Leached Red Ferrallitic soil, under a randomized block experimental design with three treatments and three replications. Population densities were 44,444, 74,074 and 88,888 plants ha-1. The density of 88 888 plants ha-1 presented the highest yield. Planting depth influenced the emergence of corn seedlings, so not all of them emerged uniformly.
