Abstract

At ??Los Palacios? Rice Research Station,
belonging to the National Institute of Agricultural Sciences,
during poorly rainy (cold), 1999 and rainy (spring), 2000
seasons, eight rice cultivars were evaluated under upland
conditions, obtained by the national program of genetic
breeding: INCA LP-9, INCA LP-8 varieties, and 8733, 8735,
3688, 3981, 8551, 8552 lines and the commercial ??Perla de Cuba?
as a check variety, on a Ferruginous Nodular Gley Hidromorfic
soil. At harvest time, the final plant height, cycle, agricultural
yield (t. ha -1) and its components were evaluated, also the
industrial yield (% of whole grains) as well as resistance to
lodging, shattering, Pyricularia grísea, Rhizoctonia solani,
Sarocladium oryzae, borer and grain spot. It was determined
that 8735 and 3981 cultivars showed the best behavior,
obtaining average yields of 3.18 t. ha -1 and the industrial yield
surpassed 52 % of total production when compared with ??Perla
de Cuba? production check. With regard to resistance
aspects, genotypes had a good behavior in front of fungal
diseases, such as Pyricularia grisea and Rhizoctonia solani.
