Abstract

Two field experiments were conducted at Various Crop Enterprise in Isla de la Juventud during 1998 and 1999, with the objective of evaluating the performance of three rice varieties ( INCA-LP7, INCA-LP8, INCA-LP9) and Perla as control in drought. The first experiment (upland) was seeded in June and the second one (favored upland) in February with survival irrigation every seven days. Panicles/m2, full grains/panicle, 1000-grain weight and agricultural yield were evaluated at harvesting time in both experiments. Results proved the productive performance of varieties is closely related to rainfall regime and the best varieties for these conditions were INCA-LP9 and Perla, with yields from 2.4 to 2.6 t.ha-1. Panicles/m2 was the most closely character to yield in both seedings. In case of these varieties, only INCA-LP9 is recommended for June sowing since Perla is affected by mite-fungus complex and so the rice production meanwhile February sowings use both cultivars.
