Abstract

The optimal crop development demands a
higher application of mineral fertilizers and pesticides. The
use of such chemicals involves not only high cost and energy
requirements, but their indiscriminate contribution could cause
salinity troubles and ground water pollution. Plant
development can also be improved by using biological
elements that co-ordinately act in the soil-root interface;
among them and as an essential factor are arbuscular
mycorrhizal fungi, which are capable of colonizing 95 % land
plants. A recent study on the microbial community associated
to arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi (AMF) has provided a fungal
knowledge; bacteria, filamentous fungi and yeast associated
to AMF structures have been observed. This paper is aimed
to analyze the evident tripartite interaction between AMF,
plants and other microorganisms, and to release the main
scientific contributions associated to this phenomenon.
