Participatory varietal selection of Capsicum sp. in an urban context

Abstract
farmers under specific environmental conditions, it also
promotes participatory approaches for their tests and enables
to choose and spread the favorite variety. A varietal fair was
performed with this aim, applying a participatory selection
methodology to species from Capsicum sp genus, where 14
spicy and sweet varieties were presented, from which farmers
could select six to be further tested under their specific
conditions, keeping in mind their selection criteria. Results
showed farmers were very interested in five pepper varieties,
the predominant approaches being fruit number/plant, plant
height, vigor and market acceptance. Moreover, the difference
among farmers�?? selection approaches from Havana City and
Havana province was recorded.
