Abstract

In 1985, a breeding program was initiated at the
National Institute of Agricultural Sciences, aimed to attain highyielding,
disease resistant Cuban potato varieties with good tuber
quality. As a result, six Cuban varieties were obtained. Anita is a new
high-yielding variety, good for fresh consumption, having field
resistance to A. solani and to leaf roll virus (PLRV), achieved through
the classical hybridization method. It has been registered as a new
Cuban cultivar, granted by the National Institute of Plant Health,
from the Ministry of Agriculture of our country. This paper presents
its main characteristics as well as its pedigree.
