Abstract

A crop breeding program started at the National
Institute of Agricultural Sciences (INCA) in 1985, with the
objective of obtaining some Cuban potato varieties with
disease resistance, high yields and tuber quality; consequently,
eight Cuban varieties were achieved. Lajera is a new variety
released by the classical hybridization method, which has high
yields, quality for fresh consumption and field resistance to
A. solani and potato leaf roll virus (PLRV). It has been
commercially recorded as a new Cuban variety, granted by the
National Institute of Plant Protection from the Ministry of
Agriculture of Cuba. This paper presents the main
characteristics of this variety and its pedigree.
